The Fools in Their Folly

This psalm begins with an excellent question. I see “former Christians” who were never truly Christians...how can one praise God and after that vehemently with poisoned lips deny Him. “Oh, but I don’t reject Him altogether because I’m still seeking Him amongst pagan deities like Hindus and Buddhists!!” Good luck with that! Really? Are those people actually that blind to not see how stupid they sound? Then how can they claim to have been a Christian and now claim so much ridiculousness?

They lie to themselves and everyone who will give them a hearing, but indeed the God of the Bible will have the last word to them all.

Psalm 2:1-12

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers

take counsel together, against the LORD,

and against his anointed, saying,

Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little.

Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

They truly believe they have thrown the restrictions they believe God put on their lives, their guilt, their various ways they dishonoured Him with the things they had said and done in their "religiosity" by elevating themselves above others (as they still continue to do, as we all tend to do not realizing the vanity of the flesh)...

....and yet all they are doing by "setting themselves free" is securing themselves in God's wrath.

Praying that perhaps  some might truly see their folly, and truly and humbly repent before a forgiving God.

  1. Dear Susan,
This seems to remind me of one of Jesus's parable of the four types of ground the seed from the sower falls upon (Matthew 13). Your blog touches on the rocky ground, the one who believes for a while but have no root, and after the sun scorches the sapling, it wilts and the believer falls away.
This may indeed be the difference between mere head belief and heart-changer. The famed atheist Richard Dawkins, for one, may fit this category, because despite his hostile opinions against organised religion, particularly Christian, he knows the Bible well, having grown up in a Christian-friendly environment. But all this being a heart issue, I, for one, cannot say of such individuals, "he is saved" or "he was never truly saved" or even, "he was saved once, but not any more."
It is a sad fact that I have known teenagers and older people who were committed to the church, but afterwards left and disappeared. If I meet them in the street, as I have, their stories are basically the same - a delusion with the faith coupled with a degree of hostility, even to the point of atheism.
I guess it is easy to point our finger at them and say that "They never truly believed in the first place." -without asking ourselves if we had failed as a church fellowship, and if so, where?
The issue is, we cannot be sure whether they "never believed in the first place" was true or not, being with the depths of their hearts, only God really knows.
A very thought provoking blog. God bless.

    1. Hi Frank,

      True words!
I agree with you, I believe that if they were ever truly saved at all the Lord will draw them to Himself.
There is one in particular that I sincerely hope and pray that is true of, and pray for her with all my heart.
Thank you for your comment, and for your visit. :)

  2. Hi Susan,
Excellent post! Our God is a jealous God, and if we "honor" Him as one of many idols, we do not know Him at all. May God bless you in your ministry.

    1. Amen Laurie, our God is True and holy, and EVERYONE will discover that, whether they stay on the right side of the truth, or the wrong side of it.
