In This World You Will Have Trouble

Today I met a patient who was in his early forties and was very worried that the illness he is experiencing will lead to his early death. He was very scared. I prayed for words and said:

"Jesus said in this world you will have trouble", and He was right. Whenever you have trouble you can say "Jesus, You were right".

Also I was reminded, and so reminded this young man, that we are not owed anything. God does not owe us tomorrow. We didn't even deserve to be born in the first place. How could we deserve something before even ever having been born??? He admitted that is true, and that He is always reading the Bible to try to find out what he needs to know. I told him that I know that I'm not thankful enough, that we must always be thankful for His forgiveness and His kindness toward us. He agreed :)

Next time I find myself in terrible circumstances, I hope I will also remember that Jesus told us that "in this world you (I) will have trouble". Thankfully, it is temporary, just like everything else is in this world. While we are here we too are temporary, but Jesus promised us a better future in a permanent home with Him. Halleluja!

  1. Peter says that we should "But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy."

I see that God is using you at your job:) It's so nice to be able to share the wisdom of God with others as we get an opportunity. Or receive it as I did the other day at the deli:)

  2. True, Ma. It is nice that I sometimes sense the Lord using me. Sometimes when I ask for the words, none come. Other times scriptures or other situations that I've been through come to my thinking, and I'll have a bit of a chat. :) It'll be interesting to one day (with the Lord) see how these things came to bear fruit (if they did, that is).

    1. Hi DebbieLynne,

I'm sorry you are truly going through the deepest of sorrows and trouble lately. Thankfully we know that when our suffering is over here, there will be joy everlasting, our tears will have been dried, and those tears will be tears of joy, I reckon! :o)

    1. I had just stumbled onto that site by clicking on her name from a comment on "From Russia With Love" blog. I am so glad I did, because it is a wonderful blog. They are an adoptive family. The mom and dad were told early into their marriage that they would never be able to conceive a baby. They went through the process of adoption of their first child, and then A MIRACLE, mom became pregnant with twins. Since then she has adopted many more children (I counted 11 altogether, but that might not include the one(s?) that has left the nest to start a new family of their own). Just what I needed, more to read! LoL.

  5. I hope that your patient is ok. That is terrible news.

It can be very hard to reconcile the suffering that we see in this world with the existence of an all loving God. But you are right, Jesus didn't promise us a life devoid of suffering, and in fact He promised us the opposite. And, of course, He suffered Himself for all of us. That should provide us with encouragement.

    1. Hi Leslie,

I love it when the Lord gives me a word of wisdom...He probably does it alot more than I am aware of. I'm trying to be more alert to thanking Him for those little kindnesses He provides to share with others, and to remember that He gets all the credit, not me. Without His Spirit I am unable to do anything good at all. It is either Him and then it is truly good, or it is an act (which I did do for many years before being saved, putting on the "I am a good person" act, and almost had myself convinced!)
