The Gospel

I posted this a few years ago on the Flutterbys blog, but I think it’s a better fit here:

I understand that we don't want to get into arguments, and we need to present the truth "in love". So why did the people of Paul's time kill people like Stephen, Peter, Paul, John the Apostle, John the Baptist, etc, etc, etc? Jesus said if we stand for the truth and proclaim it, the world will hate us....why? And if the world doesn't hate us, does that mean we are not actually proclaiming the gospel?
I understand that the Lord's sheep will come to Him, does that let us off the hook from proclaiming the truth which the world hates to hear about? Paul named names of those who didn't preach the truth, are we somehow better than he is if we don't argue?

Edit: I would add to this that the word “gospel” means GOOD NEWS. Also, the original post had great comments after it, if you (like me) enjoy reading comments, you can go to the link:

Just some things to wrestle in the spirit about.

  1. Hi Susan,
Thanks for the thought-provoking post! We must not be ashamed of the Gospel, which Paul clearly defines in 1 Cor 15:1-4, namely that Jesus died to pay for our sins, was buried, and rose on the third day, proving that He is God. We are saved only by our faith in this true Gospel.
Although we should boldly proclaim the truth, it should always be in love. If we are not doing it out of love for lost and dying souls, then it is meaningless. Even worse, a hostile or accusatory witness can turn people away from the truth.
    God bless,
    Laurie

    1. Hi Laurie, yes, the good news, the gospel, must be shared with love, even though it will get us hated no matter how much love we can feel for the lost, because it is a spiritual battle and the devil doesn’t want to lose any of his captives. I know I have been guilty in the past of reacting in an ungracious manner when people react in ways that hurt my ego and pride. But thankfully, the Lord didn’t give up on me and has taught me the true enemy is not the person mocking and sneering in my face but the demonic force that is holding that poor chap in bondage. Now, no matter what they say or do the Lord gives me the words to say that I pray will plant good seeds of good news! ❤️

    2. Amen, Susan! We fight not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual wickedness in high places. May we daily put on the armor of God to protect and fortify us in this battle, and may He enable us to plant good seeds of good news!
      God bless,
      Laurie

  2. Hi Susan,
these are two good You Tube videos. If we look in Matthew ch. 10, it speaks about being not accepted by the Jews, and as we are to understand that the scriptures are discerned spiritually I believe that to a believer this would talk about being rejected by some of the 'church', as we the church are the 'Israel of God'.
It reminds me of the parable of the wheat and the tares, which is actually speaking of the Kingdom of Heaven.

    1. Hi Brenda,
Thank you, I agree that sometimes some of the worst opposition to the truth comes from those calling themselves the church, and only God knows if they truly are wheat or chaff!! We are very near the end. We were warned that many will simply want their ears tickled with what they want to hear, not what they need to hear. We need to pray that their hearts, minds and eyes be fully opened to the truth about sin, and the truth about salvation in Jesus alone. ❤️
