Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring

Another Celtic Woman favorite (I adore Chloe!!!), this one is from Johann Sebastian Bach...from the Youtube description:

Performed by Máiréad Nesbitt and Celtic Woman in HD with stunning sound quality.

This is from the 10th movement of the cantata "Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben", BWV 147 composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Written during his first year in Leipzig, Germany, this chorale movement is one of Bach's most enduring works.

Contrary to the common assumption, the violinist and composer Johann Schop, not Bach, composed the movement's underlying chorale melody, "Werde munter, mein Gemüthe"; Bach's contribution was to harmonize and orchestrate it. Lyrics follow:

Jesu, joy of man's desiring,
Holy wisdom, love most bright;
Drawn by Thee, our souls aspiring
Soar to uncreated light.

Word of God, our flesh that fashioned,
With the fire of life impassioned,
Striving still to truth unknown,
Soaring, dying round Thy throne.

  2. Hi Ma,

    I noticed that on more recent interviews and performances she's cut some of it off...it was super long before, it must have been difficult to manage it...I think about stuff like going to the bathroom, or getting dressed and getting it caught up in clothes...

    Your hair is close to that length, isn't it Ma? Is it burdensome?

  3. It was probably close to that and then I determined that the ends were just needing trimmed in a bad way, so I did that...I actually cut quite a few inches after cutting very unevenly to start with...DOH!, but it's still a little shorter than waist length.

    No, it's not a problem at all:)

  4. Hi Ma,

    My hair is getting long too, about to the middle of my back now. When it would get this long before it would be so thrashed at the ends that I'd have it cut back up to shoulder length, but now that I don't use shampoo anymore my hair is much more manageable and doesn't have the texture of straw towards the ends anymore. Thanks for helping me in that area! I love the way my hair behaves now. :)
