Praying for Lucy

Please pray for beautiful precious Lucy, who has been fighting a rare form of brain cancer, medulloblastoma, since February 2011.

This is the first post after the diagnosis in 2/11:

What is strange is that the term "blink of an eye" (actually twinkle of the eye, but both forms really) has been on my mind lately, in it's Dutch form: Ogenblik...I've been having the nudge to post on that term, which in Dutch means THIS moment, at least that is how my mom always used that term, to refer to the present moment in time: "op het ogenblik" (at the present moment).

This is where Lucy is today, "op het ogenblik":

This term is also used in the Bible when the Apostle Paul tells us about the moment we will see Jesus:

1Co 15:51  Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
1Co 15:52  in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.
1Co 15:53  For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.
1Co 15:54  When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory."

in Dutch:

51 Ziet, ik zeg u een verborgenheid: wij zullen wel niet allen ontslapen, maar wij zullen allen veranderd worden;
55 Dood, waar is uw prikkel? Hel, waar is uw overwinning?

  1. I pray for this family. I went and read the story, what a thing to go through.

Ogenblik...it is almost as if Paul is saying something much more present tense?

    1. Yes. That is what I'm sensing from it. When it happens (and each of us will experience His coming individually on our own terms) it will happen instantaneously at the present moment...which also brings to mind:

Heb 3:7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, "Today, if you hear his voice,
Heb 3:8 do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness (ESV)

      The word today:

Neuter (as adverb) of a presumed compound of the article G3588 (“tau” changed to “sigma”) and G2250; on the (that is, this) day (or night current or just passed); genitively now (that is, at present, hitherto): - this (to-) day.

      and

      2Corinthians 6:2
behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. (KJV)

and we speak of it being then (future) but the occurrence will present itself in our "present time" at the time that it happens for each of us, just as at this moment in time we are each in Christ, or not, at this very present moment in time....it's difficult for me to explain it.

    2. This will sound a little new age-ish, I still have some memories of that swimming around in my head after all, lol, and not everything they said was wrong, just the emphasis was always on "self" instead of on Jesus....but in the new age types of religions they taught to "live in the now", and that is the sense of it...that "twinkling of an eye" moment is somewhere in each of our futures, but it is a "future now" (I hope this is making some sense)...the present moment passes before we are even aware of it, we are moving from one twinkling of an eye moment to the next, until THAT particular moment that will be the moment we are changed from our present corruptible form to our incorruptible form. The twinkling of an eye is at the speed of light, a quick moment that is gone as soon as it is here, that now moment, is THAT "future now moment" and we who are in Christ are all moving toward that "living in the now future moment". Almost Zen-like, sorry, but instead of it being about ourselves, it is all about Jesus, and being with Him, and realizing instantly that we are like Him at that moment when now suddenly we are in His presence. Does that make sense to anyone besides me? lol :D

    3. It does make sense. I have been rethinking everything I thought I knew about Jesus, salvation and our future hope.

I have also got much of this "living in the now" idea going on, and I don't know anything about new age stuff, so that is something?

    1. Thanks Mandy. It breaks my heart to read her story.

Paul had incredible things to say, God is in the past, present and future all at the same time, it is all "the present" for Him because He isn't bound by time. That is so astounding to me, and difficult to "wrap my head around".

I once heard it described this way:

If you can imagine being a dot on a timeline that begins and ends:

      point A______________________X_________________________________point B

you being the "x" on that line... and that line is on a sheet of paper (for the sake of the illustration, the paper is 2 dimensional, when in reality it is 3 dimensional)....

Anyway, God would be looking down on the timeline, seeing it in it's entirety from beginning to end, outside of the timeline, and yet not, He still interacts within it...that is the relationship that God has to us...and one day we too will be removed from the timeline, and then we will be like Him. :)
